St John’s is a Winchester based charity, and one of England’s oldest, with a long tradition of supporting elderly people of limited means. It aims to provide an inspirational community for 150 older people with quality care and support, housing and friendship so that their later years can be as full and rich as possible.

This promotional video was made at a time of growth for St John’s when the importance of fundraising was key. I worked in conjunction with the charity’s director and marketing team to create an exciting brief, serving as the project manager and videographer for the production of a showcase charity video that highlighted its importance and value to the local community. Working on a tight budget, I created a thought-provoking, engaging and high-quality video product for use on St John’s website and social media channels, which exceeded the charity’s expectations.

Creating this video raised certain ethical issues which needed to be addressed and involved many visits to interview St John’s residents, filming in their rooms and communal spaces and at various events to ensure that we covered life in the community as fully as possible. Interviews with the staff were also included for added depth, with both staff and residents sharing their experiences in order to promote the brand’s values. I was the videographer responsible for the full production lifecycle from production planning, interviewing, lighting and filming through to creating all post-production design assets, and colour grading the final cut. I used Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects and Audition to finalise all post-production video content.

Testimonial

We developed a great working relationship with Joel and Ed and their dedication is evident in the video that they produced. Visual Storm fully embraced our vision for what we wanted to achieve and quickly understood the unique intricacies of our Charity. We feel that this is reflected well in the produced end result. They worked with a high level of energy, professionalism and personality. They took the time to talk to our residents to experience first-hand exactly what it is that we do at St John’s! Since we uploaded the new promotional video to our website and social media pages, we have noticed that visitor traffic has increased markedly. We are delighted with the finished result and would recommend Visual Storm to anyone looking to expand their reach online.
